Site Spotlight: EnergyRace.com

EnergyRace.com Home page Screen Shot
Nice looking sites are great, but combine a nice site with a great cause and a fun concept, and you have a winner.

Energy Race is basically a site to make you aware of your carbon footprint, and show you ways to reduce it. The site itself is very clean and easy on the eyes. The design makes good use of subtle gradients which keep the layout clean but add some depth to it. Another nice thing about the design is the 1,2,3 approach of outlining what to do on the site. They really did a nice job of driving you to the get started button.

So when you have a moment, check out Energy Race and see what you think. While you are there, why not create an account and see what your footprint is and how you can reduce it. In case you are wondering, I did, and I have a badge to prove it.

Something Is Up

I have been hard at work on a few things for EE Design. There is a new look coming soon and an awesome new feature that I think will be a really great addition to the Expression Engine community. As we approach, I’ll reveal a little more about it.

In the mean time, if you have a template that you would like to share with the Expression Engine community, click on the submit link and let me know.

Redirects Gone Wild

What a difference a key makes. The night before last, I was doing a little tidying up in the .htaccess file and killed my index.php file. I didn’t realize it until today.

Everything is back to normal now.

If you aren’t familiar with the .htaccess file, you should spend a little time learning about what it can do for you. Wikipedia has a lot of good information on the .htaccess file.

Pointing URLs is one of the many things it can do – just make sure you do it right. wink

Site Spotlight: Erikloyer.com

One of the new ideas that I want to add to EE Design is a site review. I have selected ErikLoyer.com to be the first site in the review.image

Erik has created a very nice feel with his site. The colors and typography create warmth and beauty. I especially like how he chose to handle the project section. It seems like it should be easy to display work on the web, but many times it isn’t. Its well organized and I love the description pages. By showing selected steps involved with each project, I think you get a feel for what it might be like to work with someone.

Take a few moments and check out ErikLoyer.com. It is terrific.
