“Simple” Template

imageThis is my very first publicly-released template, and it is called “Simple.” It is designed to be, well, simple!  It is a standard two-column blog template with a header and a footer.  Yes, it is very boring-looking, but I have added some features not found in the standard EE templates that, hopefully, will make it easier for folks to get an EE blog up and running.

Here are some of the built-in features of this template and what is included in the zip file:

Features:

1.  Easy to configure to your liking—this site is using the Simple template

2.  Comment and trackback permalinks are already set up, as are anchors to the comment and trackback sections themselves

3.  The “tell-a-friend” feature is already set up and when clicked, a pop-up box appears so users can email articles to their friends

4.  Comments and trackbacks are aggregated into the entry’s permalink page, rather than on separate templates

5.  A contact form is already set up and included

6.  The “more” link to an extended entry is all set up

7.  The header and footer are contained in separate embedded templates to make it easy to make a change to either one and have it automatically reflected on all pages

8.  Little CSS tweaks, like bordered blockquotes, are already done

9.  XHTML and CSS valid

Included Templates:

A full set of 14 templates is included with the Simple Template, including the following:  archives, comments, contact, tell-a-friend, index. header, footer, CSS, and all three RSS/Atom templates.  Everything you need to get an EE blog going.  Full installation instructions are also included in a README file.

You can download the Simple Template here.  The CSS for this template is very loosely based on the Gemini template for Wordpress.

Feedback is appreciated.

Version History: updated version available

1.2 (10/06/04):

Added {assign_variable:template_group_name=”simpletemplate”} at top of each template to control template group name; revised README to describe this variable.  The fix in v1.1 is now deprecated due to the new template_group_name variable.

1.1 (9/24/04):

Fixed references to stylesheets in the templates so they linked to template group, not weblog.

1.0 (9/22/04):

Initial release.
